Sparrows – the little gray/brown birds – they are everywhere. Picking up seeds, making noise in the twisted branches of my garden hedge, fighting over a tastier crumb or simply sitting on a treetop and enjoying the sun. No one pays attention to them, no one admires them for their voice of beauty, but they seem to not care of it at all. They live their happy sparrow life, and they have no idea that the world is as it is because there are sparrows.
“Little Sparrow” is one more artistic interpretation of Tiny Tender Demon. The doll is around 25 cm tall. Her layered dress was sewn from fine transparent fabrics, embroidered with “muline” threads and aged in my original technique. It was really tricky to make her corset with long sleeves but I liked so much how it has come out, that I am definitely making more.
Winter has
come and another year is over.
Today I am introducing my last doll for this year – a tiny “Winter Shaman”.
She comes from North and sings her magic lullaby, she covers everything with an underlay of soft snow and brings everyone sweet dreams, so the world has finally peace of mind and a good and deep rest.
Peace and love everyone!
Happy new year!
your Dorote
Hello my dear fans and collectors!
I know, you have been waiting patiently for the news from me and I am enormously grateful for that!
It took me a long while to sort everything, but finally, here I am with the big news!
As some of you may know already, since the beginning of this year I was making a prototype for a resin doll.
Why have I decided to cast my doll in resin? First of all, because it will save me a lot of time from sculpting each doll and there for it will allow me to charge less. I am still going to dress up these resin dolls in unique costumes and create different characters for everyone who wishes to have their special doll made by me.
The resin dolls that I am presenting today are called Tiny Tender Demons (TTD). They are 21 cm tall and can easily be placed in your palm. They feel very natural while handling, almost alive and can pose in many different ways. Little ones have tiny mini horns on their forehead, their body has 20 points of articulation and they are coming with demonic heel shoes also created by me. They have magnets in their heads to hold the wigs, and 5mm hand made eyes.
Why Demons?
Because Demons in antique mythology were caring and joyful creatures inspiring and guiding people.
In fact, εὐδαιμονία eudaimonia, (literally good-spiritedness) means happiness. (check it in Wikipedia)
Sadly, when christianity came to power, all ancient gods and spirits were condemned; from people’s homes, green forests and blooming gardens they were sent to the underground fires of hell, all and each of them were evilized no matter what role they have played before. Maybe this is why my Tender Tiny Demons looks so thoughtful and sometimes sad.
The second reason why I liked Demon as a character so much, is because they are reflecting my inner me so well. They are not evil they are not saint – they are just as they are no matter how others are painting them. 🙂
The fully customized TTD will come together with these awesome hand painted and lined with fabrics wooden boxes.
I am also going to make special stands for them which may be painted plane color, or decorated with glass mosaic and ageing effects.
Yes I know that some of you would like to buy a non customized doll and to paint it yourself.
I am keeping it in my mind and making plans to sell some “ready to custom” TTD’s too, but that is for later.
Meanwhile enjoy the gallery of new dolls, and do not forget to check the “Available” section. If you still haven’t subscribed for this site – do not hesitate to do so.
My warmest regards to each and everyone of you!
I have been dressing up a doll and thought I will make a photo-tutorial along the way as a small gift for my followers.
So here is how to make doll shoes.
Enjoy 🙂
It’s been a while since my last post… I am sorry for not posting more often.
But you know me, when I am not posting, I am most probably working on something. There are several projects going on in my studio, and all of them are long term projects, but hopefully I will show you some new dollies soon.
Meanwhile, I have upgraded one of my earlier dolls and decided to offer it for my dear collectors. This doll is very special, because it is my first male doll.
His name is Eros, and he is a traveling artist. A gentle man of a romantic nature, he is welcome in boudoirs of high born ladies and joyfully greeted by peasant girls. If you will take a look at his sketches, you will see how tenderly he reflects his admiration for his muses.
while I have a short breack in exhibition, I am writing this post for all my followers
It is the third day and the emotional athmosphere is very warm and exiting. So much beauty arround, and so much of exellent craftmenship and original designs. My dolls are getting a lot of attention and they have brought many smiles to peoples faces
As all my dolls, these three Sirens have a story behind them too:
They say that Sirens have magic voices and are attracting sailors with their songs and a shine of their jewels to the rocky shores. The ships are breaking against the rocks and the sailors find their death on the bottom of the sea.
I say, those sailors are just too greedy. It’s not enough for them to listen to those beautiful voices and admire their beauty from a distance. They are rushing to the shore expecting to catch themselves a rich bride to trap her and to hide her from the rest of the world… silly men – at the end they are getting what they deserve.
The upper part of the dolls is made from bone China (porcelain), and the lower part is sculpted formacie dry clay on wire armature. The costumes are decorated with hand embroidery, glass and semiprecious stone beads. The jewelery is from gold, silver, diamonds and precious stones. Their crowns can be wron as rings and necklaces are also fitting human.
The February has came sooner than I expected, and all my time now goes to the preparations for the exhibition in Munich. (http://www.inhorgenta.com/)
Margita (www.margisa.eu) has made a magnificent set of jewelry for one of my dolls, and is still working on two other sets. It is very interesting and exciting to see how other artists feels the connection to my work, and how our visions are synchronizing and growing into a unique set of three dolls dressed up in silver, gold and precious stones.
I will add more photos and the whole story later, but meanwhile, with a permission from Margita, I am very happy to share with you the first one from the three: “The White Siren”.
We all are living in a society where we must obey certain rules in order to survive. We all are limited by someone or something. There will always be people who will try to trap us in different cages. Cages of rules, of traditions, of mentality. Cages that are telling us how we should be and behave according to other people’s expectations.
The greatest gift you can give to a person, is to give him/her the freedom. The freedom to be as they are, the freedom of choice, the freedom from manipulations, the freedom to take their own decisions.
So if someone is truly dear for you – open the cage, and let them free!
Each Bird Needs Freedom
is my last doll for 2013. The doll was sculpted from air dry clay, dressed up in flax and cotton outfit, which was embroidered by hand, decorated with glass beads and naturally shed feathers. It is around 50cm from the bottom of the wooden stand to the top tip of the feathers on her head.

Here you will find the most recent news about my upcoming projects, the events I am participating in and pieces I have for sale. You can also subscribe for the newsletter, to be sure you do not miss any news from my workshop.
And the Big News of the year:
It’s been several months already, since I have started working with porcelain. This new material is very different from what I have known till now, and learning to handle it was one of the most interesting and exciting experience in my life. My first mixed media dolls with porcelain parts are going to be very special, as they are a part of a collaborative project with a fantastic jewelry artist Margisa (http://margisa.eu/) from Poland. The project will be finished in february, and for now I am spending days and nights in my studio.
have a beautiful day everyone!
Dorote
